Forest of Arden Agricultural Society Ploughing and Hedging Match 21st September 2025

The club was once again on it’s travels, with our stand being set up at the Forest of Arden Agricultural Society Ploughing and Hedging match at Ragley Home Farms.

Complete with our 3m and new 4.5m gazebo, the clubs stand had two lathes running as well as or craft shop which was well stocked with members work. Thankfully the sun did shine for the whole day, but the cold start when we were setting everything up reminded us that Autumn is well and truly here.

Another reminder that Autumn is here, is when Trevor starts turning Christmas Trees and ornaments!!!!! Even though it was only September, he sold the two Christmas Trees that he turned during the morning (there’s a lesson there for everyone).

In fact, the items in the shop proved very popular and the team made a number of sales throughout the day.

The club has a number of aims that we look to fulfil when we attend outdoor shows and events:

  • To promote the Heritage Craft of Woodturning & the AWGB to a wider audience
  • To promote our club and explain what goes on at our meetings and outdoor events.
  • To educate the general public as to the creativity, skill and heritage of wood turning.

It was therefore fantastic that we all spent considerable time talking to members of the general public about the above, and encouraging those that were interested to come along to one of our meetings to see woodturning first hand. When people see our lathes running, and the team turning items, it does fascinate them as to how was take a simple piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful.

Of course, all of this would not be possible without the help and support of our club members, who freely give up their time to come along and help us on these events. This event was no exception, and I would like to thank Mike, Roger, Trevor, Matt, Carl, Jeff, and Andy who supported us on the day. Without them, this would not have happened.

We are now starting to build a team of members who are happy to come along and help out, so please don’t be afraid to get involved, just ask!.

Once again, the day flew by, and it was soon time to pack up and leave.

We’d like to say a big thank you to the Forest of Arden Agricultural Society for having us at their day, and look forward to next years event.
