August’s Monthly Meeting – EGM and Hands On Night

August’s monthly meeting was a double header evening.

To start the night, we held an Extraordinary General Meeting to allow members to vote on whether the club should apply for charitable status, and then whether we should adopt a new constitution. After a presentation on the key benefits and “drawbacks” members voted unanimously that the club should apply for charitable status, and to accept the proposed constitution. We also voted on the appointment of our first 8 trustees.

In the 27 years that the club has been affiliated to the AWGB, this represents a significant step forward in how the club is run and should help to secure the future for the next 27 years. I would like to thank everyone who came along and participated in the meeting, and to those members who have volunteered to stand as trustees. Without our members getting involved like this, we would not have the club we have.

Once the formal part of the evening was over, the usual fun started with 2 club lathes running for members to have a go on. There were plenty of members on hand to share their experience and know how.

Thread chasing was a popular subject on one of the lathes, with members having a go at the techniques Richard Findley had demonstrated last month.

Of course it would not be a Hands On night without our usual raffle, equipment sale, and members table. This month there were plenty of bargains on the sale table, and I think almost everything that we had left to go to a new home at the end of the night.

Our members work table yet again had a wonderful array of items that members brought to share with the club. Here are a few pictures of this months selection:
