At this year’s AGM the club recognised two of our most dedicated members for their commitment, contribution and leadership over the last 25 years. John Smith and Mike Delves have both been instrumental in making Burcot Woodturners what it is today, and ensuring that we have a welcoming and friendly club.

John retired from the position of Club Secretary in 2022. He had been on the club committee since the club was formed back in 1987, and had held the positions of Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary (some of them at the same time) during that period. He accepted the position of Club President in 2022, and he has carried out the role with continued enthusiasm and pride ever since.
Mike retired as Club Chairman back at our AGM in January and was voted into the role of Vice President at the meeting. Having been Chairman for almost 20 years, Mike has been involved in every aspect of the club, from Hands On nights and organising club raffles, to being ever present at our outdoor events. He has led the club through the pandemic and has overseen the growth of Burcot Woodturners since.

At the AGM, John Wardle said that both John and Mike are a great support to everyone at the club and are always happy to offer advice to turners of every level, to help them improve their skills and abilities. Nominating them both as Honorary members, John recognised their outstanding contribution, and the time that they have both given to running the club. Club members then unanimously voted to pass the nomination to make them both honorary members.

At our March meeting, current Club Chairman, Richard Pinches, presented John and Mike with certificates to mark their Honorary Memberships. He also presented Mike with a gift from the club to thank him for his leadership and contribution during his time as Chairman.

Thankfully, John and Mike will continue to share their wisdom and support in their roles as President and Vice President and we could not wish for any better ambassadors for Burcot Woodturners.
