For our July meeting we were pleased to welcome renowned demonstrator, Richard Findley, back to the club. Richard’s last visit to Burcot was back in 2023, and it was a packed Village Hall that was eager for this demonstration.

Richard is a professional turner/demonstrator, who has many years of experience. He has demonstrated all over the world, and is one of the top demonstrators in the UK.
Over the course of the evening, Richard showed us all how to cut a thread into your work so that a lid could be easily attached .
Now I am sure that there are plenty of members who have never contemplated putting a thread onto their work, partly down to lack of knowledge, or not having the confidence or technique to make it work. Richard shared his tips and technique so that by the end of the demonstration, members had the confidence to think about having a go at adding a thread to their work.

It has to be said that Richard made it all look very easy, and he explained every step in great detail. Of course there were a few excellent questions from the audience and a fair bit of banter, all of which helped to make it a very entertaining evening.
The night culminated in him making a small wooden box, with a screw on lid, to show how the technique could be used.
Here are a few more photographs from the evening.

And here is the box that Richard produced during his demonstration.

When we decided to upgrade our demonstration AV equipment, it was with this type of demonstration in mind. With our new screen and camera’s we were able to bring really clear and close up images of Richard in action.

But the news does not stop there, we also recorded the demonstration so that members who were not able to attend could also catch up. Tim Walton is currently working to edit the footage and it will be available to watch via the members area very soon.
I have known Richard for over 20 years and he always does a great demonstration I was sorry I missed the evening but I really look forward to watching the video Regards John Smith
