For our September club meeting it was a pleasure to welcome AWGB Midlands Rep, Barrie Fisher, along to the club to demonstrate how to turn a Saturn Bowel. Barrie is a regular visitor to the club, and is always happy to share his experience with members, so it was nice to see him on the other side of the lathe for a change.
In front of yet another good crowd of members and visitors, Barrie set about turning the bowl which has a rotating ring around it, hence the name.
Barrie soon got into his stride and made short work of getting the form he wanted. He happily shared some hints and tip that would help any turner regardless of their skill level or the type of project. There was particular interest in his Wood Butter which helped to keep dust down whilst sanding.
There were plenty of questions from the floor throughout the evening, and Barrie was happy to answer them and talk through what he was doing.
Barrie was the first demonstrator to use the full capability of our club TV, drawing illustrations to show some of the important points from his demonstration.
