On Sunday 6th of September the club represented the wood turning community at the first festival of trees being held at Spetchley Park and Gardens. The event was a celebration of wood and all the crafts that go with it. We joined bodgers, furniture sellers, chainsaw carvers, jewellery makers and artists displaying their products
Once we got over the early start it did not take us long to put the full club stand up. For this events we took along the club pole lathe and one of the electric lathe so that people could see the old and the new side by side. With the craft stand displaying everyone’s items that were for sale we were ready to go.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the members of the team giving up their time to come along and man the stand. A big thanks to Mike, Jeff, Matt, Bruce, Trevor, Carl and for her first outdoor event we welcomed Ginie along. Thank you all for volunteering it is much appreciated and always fun.
With the public starting to come in we cranked up the generator and commenced turning. The steady stream of people coming to the stand gave us a chance to talk about our heritage craft and explain what the club does, when we meet, and to invite anyone who was interested to one of our meetings to learn more.

As this was a festival of trees we were surrounded by like minded people who created things out of wood. Here are a few of the other stands at the event:
We had a lovely day in front of the house at Spetchley, and it was nice to see a few members come along to have a look round the event and gardens. Roger Street definitely won our vote for the best dressed visitor on the day!.
It was also good to see Ginie’s family come along, and to see her son join his mum and have a go on the pole lathe. Always good for them to start young.
We finished the day having made a few new friends as well as promoting woodturning to the members of the public who came along. A good day was had by all.
