It was a pleasure to welcome Emma back to the club for our April meeting, and as usual her demonstration did not disappoint.

With the Village Hall packed once more, Emma showed us how to turn a faux hollow form with a lid, and finished off by adding a coloured dragonfly to the finished piece.
Kitted out with her new mask/respirator, that served as a timely reminder that we should all ensure that we take precautions not to breath in harmful dust when turning, it did not detract from the demonstration or the banter between Emma and the audience.
Whether you are a novice or experienced turner, Emma’s demonstration had something that everyone could take away and try at home.

It was interesting to listen to Emma’s tips and techniques for hollowing out the form, and also watching her create the lid that fitted perfectly. Of course her best tip if you are creating a similar piece was that if the inside is not that smooth “glue the lid on with superglue” – No one will ever see!!

To finish off the evening, Emma demonstrated how to apply colour to your work using a stencil and an airbrush.
This was a new technique that had not been seen at the club, so it was interesting to see how easy it was to do, along with how good the finished piece looked.
Given the amount of interest in this way of applying colour, I am sure that we will be seeing a number of pieces on the members table in the coming months that have used Emma’s technique.

It was another fantastic evening and we would like to thank Emma for making it so enjoyable and informative. There was plenty of new ideas and techniques that we could take away and try in our own workshops.
We can’t wait to welcome Emma back to Burcot in the future for another demonstration. In the meantime, if you are interested in the products she uses, or would just like to see her demonstrating other techniques, you can pop along to her website: https://www.thetinyturner.co.uk/
Emma has also recently taken over the Jo Sonja’s shop and will be selling the Jo Sonja range under the rebranded name of Paints and Pigments. Again pop along to her website if you want to purchase.
