Despite a later start than we had anticipated, due to being locked out of the hall, we had a well attended evening for our February meeting. Thankfully, when we did get into the hall the heating was on and everyone warmed up quickly.
As a replacement for Wolfgang’s demonstration we had a Super Sized Hands On evening with 4 lathes operating, and Tom Phoenix kindly put on a Tool Sharpening School as well.

There was plenty happening on the lathes and our novice members had the opportunity to have a go at some new techniques or simply had a bit of coaching on a tool that they were unsure of. Our more experienced turners also got involved sharing their knowledge and tips.
Tom’s Sharpening School was very popular, with plenty of interest from new and old members alike. Having sharp tools is essential to create a well finished piece, and Tom was happy to demonstrate the best ways to keep your tools sharp and ready to turn.

Tom answered plenty of questions and hopefully everyone managed to take away one or two tips about grinding tools.

You may have also noticed that we had our demonstration equipment out on the evening. Tim and Bruce were testing the new camera set up so that we get the best possible images at our next demonstration (Emma Cook is coming in April). It also meant that members got a close up of Tom sharpening tools on the grinder.
Finally, we had a great display of members work that provoked a number of conversations about how items were turned as well as finished. Thank you to all members who brought their work in. Here are a few pictures of the pieces that were on the members work table.

It looks like a great evening and the additional activities going on also the splendid pieces on the members table great table cloths made by Ray also the individual photographs looking good,
