It was with great sadness that the club learned of the death of club member Patrick Clarke at the age of 90 on the 24th of May.

Pat passed away after a long illness, which had seen him get progressively worse in the last few weeks.

Pat was one of the club’s founding members, and his contribution in the early years helped to lay the foundations for the club we have today. He always held the club close to his heart, and it was Pat who was our benefactor last year, donating money to the club which allowed us to upgrade our demonstration set up. As was his nature, Pat wanted no fuss, no fanfare, he just wanted to see the club do well.  The fact that we now have one of the best demonstration set ups in the country is a testament to Pat’s generosity. Club President John Smith regularly visited him when Pat could no longer make it to club meetings, and the conversation always included what was going on at our club and woodturning in general.

In December, the committee made Pat an Honorary Life Long Member in recognition of his many years of service and kind generosity. It was an award that he was proud to accept.

For those of us who knew Pat, he will be sadly missed. He was proud of our club and the fact that we have managed to retain our friendly and welcoming atmosphere, even as our membership has continued to grow – something he felt strongly about.

RIP Pat and thank you.
